Hatsune Miku V4X Model Digitrevx Release by Digitrevx Hatsune Miku V4X Model Digitrevx Release by Digitrevx
Good day everyone, what I have for you is a huge model! This model look far too long to get out but for good reason. This is my first "defualt" type of Miku model and I wanted it to be something special. She has pretty much all the cool stuff a modern model of mine should have. Even a accurate model of a Fender guitar I modeled just for her. Her file size is also huge 40mb!

Special thanks to Mahlazer for making a premiere video of Miku V4X! Please check out the video and please hit a thumbs up for me on it and possibly sub to him if you like pro level creative MMD content! Video link here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=11b15u…

She comes with 3 versions:
Just Miku.
Miku with a guitar on her back.
Miku with a guitar on front.

The model includes fun things like Nekomimi sliders to interface sliders that react to Autolumnous for her gloves headphones skirt and boots.
The zip comes with 3 pose files inspired from the original illustrations by Ixima along with png renders of each.
If you have problems with making the buttons glow on her sleeves this post might help! Miku's button interface!
If you have problems with skin clipping through gloves refer to the how to properly bend arms guide! How to bend arms!

Standard read me included art but most important are the requests I personally ask. Please do not upload Miku. She will always be here for download for all!
Zip Download button is to the right of the banner above!
There is no MMM version of her atm. The file size is already gigantic. Changing the model to MMM is easy and not worth adding to the file size!

Now go forth and learn, be creative, and have fun!

Out of curiosity, would you be OK if we used your models as bases? (as in, kinda strip all characteristics and create a new character, and reupload) I'm wondering about alternatives to TDA. xD

Well you know not even TDA wanted his appended miku to be used as a base.

I had an inkling you would prefer it wasn't edited~

But I thought TDA did eventually? He updated the terms so we could use as a base.

Edits aren't the issue, making a base out of it sorta is. I don't recall TDA ever updating his ToA. I could be wrong but I'm skeptical you are getting it confused with what the community did to the models documents not him.

Well, would you ever consider doing a base? Or are you kinda worried about it?

According to the wiki, it was editable once was released as a free model. idk! mikumikudance.wikia.com/wiki/M…

Yeah I dono exactly what happen in history with TDA. But I know just about every rule has been broken on his model so I'd safely assume the any rules on edits have been broken too.
Anyways TDA never made a base for the public. Fans stripped his model and made a base out of it. Same goes of any other note worthy modeler's work.

If you want to convert it that is fine. I my self can't do that sorta thing. From what I know paper craft is based on the poly count and typology. So Miku is around 250 thousand poly's. So wouldn't that be like 250 thousand microscopic folds or am I wrong?

The problem that I am having is that I can't convert .pmx files to other 3D files. Well I don't have a Windows computer to convert it. Because I found a lot of ways to convert it on Windows computer.Well I can still reduce the polygon count for the papercraft, but first I need a base model.

I honestly never considered ranking my stuff. I just try to do the best I can every day and what happens happens!
Its definitely humbling to know what I made is liked that much and would love to share like I do with artwork someone makes with a model but I think it would be kinda self serving to do that. >////<

She looks fabulous,  but 250K poly is a little bit overkill for real-time rendering with  System Animator. Anyway still one of the best looking Miku.

But there are something ... not sure if it enters the subjective category or the objective one.
I noticed that she has absolutely no trapezius muscles. I know it is almost totally hidden by her collar but it also mean that as soon as somebody do an edited version with no collar it will show up if they do not take time to add the muscles.

It look like her knee may be too high and her hips too thin but this is more subjective... or at least not that appealing to me. Let say that one of my favorite Miku is the quite voluptuous Tsumidango.

Last thing is more like something I wonder about and a kind of suggestion... To be honest it is something that annoy me a little about all Miku model ever. Like yes all model ever.

The bowleg/curved tibia or curved lower leg...  An anatomy feature quite common and widely used by  Mangaka and Animation studio also by doll manufacturer  to make their model more attractive... But it looks like not even one modeler done it to a Miku model.  I am wondering why because a subtle curve in the lower leg look pretty good. It's also a quite common anatomy feature even more common in Japan. So i'm not so sure why I never seen it done to a MMD model. Or maybe they just have never noticed, it's really not that obvious when we do not  know about it. But when we know it's so obvious.

If you wonder what i'm talking about  search for Minifee "Cutie legs". it's the name Fairyland Doll gave to this anatomy feature. They made it as an option and of course it became the one that sell the most.  And to be honest the curve is not even that subtle on this Doll.

I'm sure that if someone do it to their Miku model it will instantly be more appreciated. But the people will have a hard time to figure out why they like it more. Almost nobody consciously know about this anatomy feature still we kinda notice it anyway.  Yeah human brain ability to see really little details without knowing what it is.

If you had never noticed now.. you will see it everywhere. Actually totally straight leg are quite rare and not that good looking. You can go look celebrity/model/dancer etc...  Look closely to shade and the shape and trace line between the knee and the feet.  Yeah almost everybody kinda have a  curve in the lower leg.  Sometime it's really subtle but other time it's really not subtle at all.

So maybe you knew ... and went for a straight leg design because you like it more.  But I'm guessing it's a new information and that you will eventually like the curved legs more and wonder why you never noticed it before. Or maybe not who know...

Hey, while I do think 250k is up there it should be fine with any video card dating back at least 6 years.
To me anime is a mix of human anatomy and style. Over all it is a simpler example of real human anatomy so usually the less flattering parts of real anatomy is left out. It is a character after all.

I use to model dolls for a guy named Danny Choo behind the scenes as a 3d sculpter. While idea of bowlegs never came up from anyone in the staff at the time and trust me we looked at a lot of dolls, it could have been because rarely is it represented in anime and we probably considered at least the tibia portion of the bow to be not very flattering. Mean while pigeon toe sometimes associated with bowlegs we consider an expression in a characters personality and that is very popular. The times I see tibia bowlegs portrayed in anime would be very stylized art from maybe a studio like trigger. At that point most of human anatomy is stylized.

The reason I wouldn't see my self modeling a character pigeon toe is for compatibility reasons. There a hundreds of motions out there users want to apply to our models. It already is very difficult making a new model that works for the majority of motions without venturing into abstract things. Depending on what it is if you step too far out of the box a huge number of those motions will make the character look awkward and then works against the models appeal. Legs is one of those things that is risky business so unless  the bow is very very slight it's better to just pose or animate the character to have bowed legs with pigeon toe when you needed it.

But I'll say I do often model curve in front of the shin. If you turn the hips inward even a little bit it looks a lot like the characteristics of bowleg anatomy. But again they are positioned strait for compatibility. I'll keep a eye on it and maybe very slight amounts can be added.

Sorry it's a bit long .. But a least I learned few new things while writhing.

You worked on the smart doll. Nice they look really good and I like the idea of turning them into little robot. It is also a doll model I looked  for reference. I liked the face a lot. I'm still struggling a little to make proper "anime" 3d faces that look really good from all angle. There is something pretty hard to translate from paper to 3d, I think.

Also you'r right a real bowleg with extreme curvature are not that flattering. It's just that the little curve have no real name.

I agree  a model with pigeon toe  or even "toe in" would mess up the rig compatibility for sure. It can make the legs look more curvy and I noticed that they often come together in some art pieces. I guess the animator can  simulate it to some level by rotating the feet or rotating at the hips.

I also wondered at some point if the curve was just an illusion caused by the feet pointing inward.
Now I'm pretty sure that it is the other way around. In some position we get the illusion that human leg are straight. Yeah they are straight on average but made up of a lot of curvy organic parts.

And I kinda know that character are idealized representation. We try to keep or improve what is good and the final result give each artist is own style. But i'm pretty sure the curve i'm talking about is in the realistic side and good to keep category. Even if it was almost never used just few years ago.

Funny when I searched for anatomy picture to add in my text I figured out something that is a 100% objective explanation of what's going on and what i'm talking about. So it's going to be pretty convincing.

Let forget the extreme case of human mutation and really curved leg. We just look at what we consider a normal "not curved" leg.
If we think about it ... the bone are larger on the top and the bottom than they are in the middle so even a perfectly straight bone will have a curved outline .  But the important point, there is an offset,  the middle part of the bone is not always in the center relative the joint and the joint itself often have an offset too.  It mean one side has a bigger curve from the joint to the middle part than the other. It make the whole shape pretty confusing once the muscle are added. But still even a really straight bone display a curve relative to the joint because of the offset. So the leg go outward and come back with a curve to meet the ankle. My it's no easy with words.

I think it's really the offset that make the curve  apparent even when people have really straight leg.
Anatomy pic ... img.tfd.com/MosbyMD/thumb/tibi…

I guess our brain just go like Yeah no problem  it's straight and we ended up drawing and sculpting it more straight than a real leg.
And it is a subtle detail that more artist begin to add to their art. Still the vast majority of a manga and anime do not do it at all and the older they are the less chance there are to to see that little curve.

So I found one of the straightest  ever X-ray of a tibia. This one have about zero offset in the bone itself and virtual no curve. But still the tibia have an offset relative to the femur. And we can see the inward curve just before the ankle caused by the bone that get wider. So the contour of the leg itself have a visible curve just before the ankle.  It's the curve i'm talking about.
encrypted-tbn3.gstatic.com/ima…

This one is even more representative of what i'm talking about. If we make a line between the joint it end up on the side of the bone . The bone itself have a little offset not only the joint. This combined with the taper befor the ankle make a leg with an obvious curve while still being considered normal.
anatomy.uams.edu/xraygifs/lowe…

I went back to look in my reference folder and noticed that many drawing and 3d model properly show the curve caused by the offset at the knee joint but after it go straight to the ankle. While in reality there is an other curve before the ankle. This second curve make a pretty good visual difference.

As far as I know Fairyland doll  was the first  manufacturer  to make doll with a curved leg and offered it as an option.  So it's pretty useful to make direct comparison.  And they are the one that made me aware of this. At that time I was studying anatomy pretty hard to improve my drawing skill. Not so long after I sculpted my own doll. Sometime I'm thinking about making a MMD model of my doll and also get a 3d printer. But  I sculpt about at the same speed and get about the same result with 3D or Clay. So it look like the result is bound to my anatomy knowledge and not the medium.

An interesting point about Fairyland doll too if we look really closely at the "model leg" vs "cutie leg" we can see that even the "model leg" are not really  straight they have a subtle curve too .
farm8.static.flickr.com/7226/7…

Not so long ago almost all doll legs were perfectly straight. But...
It look like that  Volks Crobidoll  and SQ-Lab began to add the subtle curve too I guess other too. It subtle but there are curve and an  offset to the side compared to the feet and knee.  These legs look pretty good.
farm4.static.flickr.com/3796/1…

Since I began to pay attention to this I noticed that  the curve is everywhere like even my own legs have a curve that I was not aware of before. If a I put a string in between middle of my knee to my ankle the bone offset and the curve become really obvious.

For fun I sculpted few prototype and tried to push the idea to the limit... like really big curve to see when my brain will begin to say who ... it's wrong it a ways to curvy. I could curve it a lot before it began to look really wrong. But sure a subtle curve was more pleasing.

I can think of Kyoani who use it in most of their newer characters design I think it's pretty standard since K-On.    For the other studio  it seem to be more random.
I guess that outsourcing the animator is the reason, some animator do it some do not it's not consistent .
But I see it more and more often and sometime it's weird because it's not  consistent from one scene to an other.

Some picture from Kyoani concept art where the curve is obvious.
They also have the curve even when the feet are straight. It's part of the concept art and quite consistent in the animation.  So it's obviously done on purpose. But as far as I know it's the only studio that do not outsource their animator. They are all together in the same studio so they can implement subtle detail  and stay consistent.
www.animenewsnetwork.com/thumb…
vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/c…

I also noticed that it became common in new A1-Picture show. They have curved leg in concept art. But It's not always consistent in the show itself. I guess because of the outsourced animator. By example Asuna from Sword Art Online got curved leg in almost all concept art. They even make the the drawing with one leg toe-in and the other straight so that people know it's supposed to be curved. We can see the curve just before the ankle.
www.t-ono.net/images/2013/conv…

And some example of a real dancers with relatively apparent curve... Kozue and an other that I can not name. Actually the vast majority of of the Odorite dancer have quite curved leg.
encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/ima…

Some other one..
i.ytimg.com/vi/x40_62hKuxI/max…

Ikura vs Miku  ...  Even better for this one because I know that it's the exact video that was used to make the Miku motion. She have curved leg Miku do not.
i.ytimg.com/vi/cfhCXWeb35Y/max…

It also true that the vast majority of us have way less curved leg than that. I used the obvious one
for better visualization.

I see, it's a bit long long response to properly respond. Maybe if I have time later I can talk about it more but I did read it. ^^
I quit working for Danny a few years ago but last I remember the smart doll plans to be robotic have long been shelved as it is too costly.
