I know you wana see the shiny vid first so come back up when you're done! xP Ok so I rebuilt half the hair rig. Added more bones to it and tuned it some. What was happening was about midway down it seemed her hair was a little too ridged and not bendy enough. So I added more bones to let that happen. This is basically Misaki hair on crack. More bones and technically challenging physics all to keep her hair separated when it flys around but keep it some what grouped up. Before I re-built the original rig her hair was also flying around super wildly. May have looked cool for some serious head banging rock video but probably not what most of you have in mind.

2nd Major thing was she had to have a arm operation/surgery. I noticed her elbows were too low on her arm and the only correct way to fix it was go all the way back to maya and fix it at the source. Then bring her arms back in to max then export from max in pmx then re-rig them. It ate up a few hours trust me but now I'm happy :)

Also made basic a,e,i,o,u mouth shapes for the video and a eye blink. Her eye lashes are a super huge pain to work with. Everything else is awesome :)


And yes I do know she ate her hair 3 times in that video. Ironically after playing it 7 more times she didn't do it. Gota love real time physics. xD

Yeah it takes some work, actually a lot of work lol. But they are fun in the end and impressive to watch when animated and stuff. Sometimes soon I'll need a few day break after the miku thing is over and stuff and decide whats next. Miku is almost there but clearly the physics video brought up some issues that have to be looked at sadly which may delay the Sunday release.. :(

She's awesome - I had just a few reservations about her face coming off just a touch too young or something - but they are all gone

She's georgeous!

I only see her hair having a level of brittleness - but you've addressed how you feel abut that and I certainly respect your judgement on that.

Like I know NOTHING about the issues involved.

The slat's are pretty right on in terms of physics. Really a fabulous job. Her and Misaki are top eschelon models fer sure

Go have one of yer macaroons - if You Know Who hasn't done them in!

Yeah she looks better moving, which was what I hoped for.
I'll look into the hair situation. A lot can be tuned and I'm ok with that, Just adding bones is crazy. She has 2 bones and about 30 joints in each pig tail. Its not something I really want to mess with much or it will really delay things!


Haha I'm looking at her textures currently. Kinda grumbling about the AO thing.. But I did find a problem I have to fix and I want to get a spa on her blades. Haven't gotten to that either. Besides 40 some facials we are close for Sunday.. I'm trying!

Oh my god, it looks AMAZING so far, Trev.

Obviously there are a few problems, being that physics are REAAALLLLLLY hard to get right, and it's still a WIP- but that's astonishing, how this is still a WIP, yet it's this good. I can't wait for more updates on her, it's a beautifully done model. Yeah, the other 2013 RMs are nice, too, quite beautiful as well, but you've definitely topped them all with this one, Trev.

Yeah but I just don't think there is much wrong with her physics. Adding more bones is pointless because there are not even enough verts in her hair to even assign to new bones. I'm not really about to go all the way back to maya and start he process over for her hair just to spend even more time adding bones so her hair can move 10% better then it does currently. That would be madness.. :/

I'm ready to finish the facials and be done with her, its day 16!

The physics are really good, by the way, I didn't mean to say there was really anything wrong.

Yeah, I'll try to improve the lightness that I think I'm getting from the responses. I'm dealing with textures even tho it wasn't my original intention in the video. I usually make a last pass at everything before releasing because I do a lot of testing and find issues lol!

Yeah 16 days is a while. Technically I'm now over my time I spent on BRS and IBRS. But it seems as these models get more detailed, more painting, more custom rigs and stuff it also eats up my time more and also adds stress lol! xD

I'll look into it some. I don't want to change too much at this point. I did notice you tube changed the vibrance of my video I uploaded. Her hair isn't even the same shade of blue.. face seems lighter then her hands? Her hands are black so I'm not sure I follow what you mean?

Her head is trapping light around her neck, its part of the AO calculation.. /facedesk lol
If I start painting it out you will start to wonder why her skin is now glowing compared to her cloths :T

Its just this is a physics post and everyone worried about textures rofl. All my models have dark area's under their heads because I'm the only person apparently that calculates real world lighting into the textures for MMD. I'll consider reducing it some but I have to trust my experience. :)

If AO is an effect bending a finger on the rig is a effect. Usually effects as I know it are per pixel calculations in real time like dynamic lighting that casts a shadow or auto luminious or blur. Baked AO is part of the texture it is not the effect of any real time calculation because its per-computed by no visible light only proximity. If it was screen space AO, your right its definitely an effect. :)

While every once in a while I notice the darkness thing - 99.9 % of the time it adds the perfect sense of realism to the model to make it stand alone in it's artistry. I for one greatly appreciate your presentation sense on this and I trust it. The mmd community will appreciate it too.

I'm doing some stuff with Misaki and her facial shots (with the shading) make her come ALIVE and I'm sure I'll get the same feeling working with RMiku 2013

Thxthx, I'm still doing my best to make all happy!! Critiques are not a bad thing but sometimes my inner artist comes out on days I've seen the sunset and sun rise and get the feeling I've fell short somewhere after all that work lol! I eventually find a way to make things work or my fail safe is distract everyone with shiny things so they don't notice problems lolol! I kidd..

I paint them by hand in mudbox, and bake my AO's out of maya and hand touch them up. Some area's of the skin I adjust the ao to overlay a shade similar to the skin color instead of a monochromatic AO image. Spa's are just simple image and since reflectivity is based on brightness I tend to make them pretty dark so it has a little shine. Also I pant them in most cases based on theory like boots that are vertical and shiny I want to have bands of reflected color running up the boot. So I paint bands vertical in the spa. :)

Yeah I never bake any direct lighting. If I do its not baked with software its hand painted and its minimal highlights where I feel light would generally hit things like the tops of stuff. But Occlusion is the only thing I bake, specifically ambient because the word occlusion alone means many things haha! xD

Really? Maya is super stable compared to 3dmax. I can't even minimize 3d max and maximize without fear of it crashing. I'm so not a fan of it at all.. :T

Oh usually its max that doesn't like million poly models.. There's not a lot that max does that maya can't but a whole lot that maya can do better and stronger.. I seem maya is able to rotate 5 million poly models without problems but the same model in max and I get maybe 1 fps lol.. Its always been like that on every machine I've used it on haha! I dono but after using maya I feel max can bite the dust rofl which might happen since autodesk doesn't support it anymore but support maya lol!

How do I say this, erm no.. I just spent all hours up till 5 am building another rig just to add 16 bones, 8 each side. Dealing with physics is not something you want to do and re-weighting all those strands that are pretty much on top of one another. If it was TDA with a single IK chain running down a pigtail I'd say ok, that's easy. But this is a little more complicated..
